Well it all started out at a party they say
All the guests were invited by a stranger in grey
You were just a homebody, never tempted to stray
They were all for adventure, Bilbo what would you say

The way wasn't easy or so I've been told
The journey was long, the nights were so cold
You were always fair game for the goblins and trolls
And at the end sat a dragon on a mountain of gold

What with wizards and Dwarves and the Elvish folk too
You'd bit off a bit more than a Hobbit can chew
And at the end of it all there's a job you must do
Though most of 'em doubted that you'd see it through

The great dragon sits on his gold in his cave
There's a tiny old tunnel as dark as the grave
And in it a Hobbit with a mission to save
Oh and all of your life you were never so brave

With your great Ring of Power and your small Elvish sword
You riddled the dragon, you burgled his hoard
And you marked that one weak spot that the rest had ignored
Then you skipped off to daylight while the dragonfire roared

Now the dragon is dead and his gold they divide
Though for pride and for greed far too many have died
But the greatest treasure is hidden inside
Of a Hobbit who found it the one time he tried
