What did you say to me, time has passed; who do you think I am – I am
Guide me through the night's labyrinth, to this den of fear
Bring me to the place where we'll meet; I won't come alone – alone
Hold me close to you, memory; I don't wanna die, rescue me...

Here at last we stand, nine and one; now you know my name – my name
Bind you to the flame, to this soul; now receive my pain
Stranded here in this hateful world; this was not my choice – my choice
Secrets beckon us, one and all; come together now, follow me to the end

Nine shadows cross my path
Nine cats walk the darkened void
If you'll see me through this night
I will keep you in my sight

Thousand years of sleep cannot change; Time is not deceived – deceived
Moments slip away just like tears; Hours running out for me
Swift the end will be; anguish nears; Life I see undone – undone
Darkened waters were once my grave; Now forevermore no more lies

Nine shadows cross my path
Nine cats walk the darkened void
If you'll see me through this night
I will keep you in my sight
Nine shadows cross my path
Nine cats walk the darkened void
If you'll see me through this night
I will set you free

Artist Comment: "This song is about Queen Berúthiel and her mysterious cats, first alluded to in LotR by Aragorn in the Mines of Moria: '[Gandalf] is surer of finding the way home in a blind night than the cats of Queen Berúthiel (FotR p. 325).' Tolkien elaborated on the identity of this queen in a note published in Unfinished Tales (pp. 401-402). The song contains many oblique references to this story, but also to the role playing scenario based upon it by Chris Seeman, which was published in Issue 6/7 of the magazine Other Hands and which is in turn alluded to in various publications of Iron Crown Enterprises' Middle-earth Role Playing books. The song treats a Berúthiel as a tragic character, put in a tragic situation by dark forces beyond her control. The Gothic Resonance demo tapes can be ordered from Chris Seeman."
