Could not vanish, could not stay, had to move the other day
With no intention to come back, in the night to cover tracks
Cut through hedgerows, dikes and fields, avoid the road laid through the hills
Firesites and willowtrees, at least it‘s country known to me

Found no way to tell my friends, I don‘t know where this story ends
Sneak through woodland without sound, eyes and ears might be around
Is there someone on our tracks, like that rider clad in black
Just some days and all has changed, I got my whole life rearranged

So goodbye, farewell, ain‘t no way that I could tell
If ever I come back to see the hole that‘s been a home to me
Goodbye, so long, it‘s up to me alone

Don‘t think I‘m made to face it all, the plot is big and I am small
A warrior might shrink with fear and still it‘s me who‘s standing here
I wish I‘d seen a different time and this mission wasn‘t mine
I wasn‘t born when it began, now my option is to run

So goodbye, farewell, ain‘t no way that I could tell
If ever I come back to see the hole that‘s been a home to me
Goodbye, so long, it‘s up to me alone
