High on the mountain now you have slain the foe,
And high on the mountain he's slain you also.
To the land of your youth have you crossed,
But you'll not forsake us, O, when we are lost.
All the world's secrets now you understand,
As told by the rocks that lie under the land.
When you were with us, O, then we knew no fear,
High was our courage, O, when you were near.
Long have we mourned you and long we have yearned,
But O! you will lead us again when you return.
High on the mountain now you have slain the foe,
And high on the mountain he's slain you also.
To the land of your youth have you crossed,
But you'll not forsake us, O, when we are lost.

Artist Comment: "Song for the White Rider was written in 1968, after I'd read The Lord of the Rings for the first time. The style is merely my own; I did not attempt to imitate the inimitable. It is neither more nor less than a first reaction, sometimes accurately reflecting what I read, sometimes not, but expressing my wonder at the beginnings of an understanding that would grow for a lifetime."
