Tell me O Wanderer, where are you going to,
Where are you going in the morning so fine?
Where are you going and may I go with you?
May I be your friend, will you be a friend of mine?
Tell me O Wanderer, where have you come from?
Where have you learned the great things you must know?
Tell me, O where is your home if you have one,
Home that you left many ages ago?
O, is your staff a rod or a scepter?
Under your hat are you wearing a crown?
What are you called in the halls of the mountains?
What is your name in the fair lands beyond?
You I remember, though I have not seen you.
Do I recall you from legend or lore?
O, have you come to bring peace to our people?
Or have you come to lead us in war?

Artist Comment: "Song for the White Rider was written in 1968, after I'd read The Lord of the Rings for the first time. The style is merely my own; I did not attempt to imitate the inimitable. It is neither more nor less than a first reaction, sometimes accurately reflecting what I read, sometimes not, but expressing my wonder at the beginnings of an understanding that would grow for a lifetime."
